Fire restrictions will go into effect Monday at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks because of high fire danger and continuing drought, parks spokeswoman Krystina Webster said.
The restrictions will mainly affect visitors below 6,000 feet, where no wood or barbecue fires are allowed. This includes Ash Mountain and Hospital Rock Picnic Area, Cedar Grove Village picnic areas, and the Foothills and Cedar Grove area campgrounds: South Fork, Potwisha, Buckeye, Sentinel, Sheep Creek, Canyon View, and Moraine. Gas or propane stoves may be used at all elevations.
No smoking is permitted at any elevation, except in a campground where wood fires are allowed, an enclosed vehicle or a building that allows smoking, Webster said.
The restrictions will be in effect until further notice, Webster said.
